Good Networking guide

I am looking for a good guide for networking my two computers together.

I have Win XP on my main machine and win 98 on another. I have fitted the ethernet cards and I will be using crossover cable to connect the computers.

I need a good but simple guide or instructions to follow to set up the software on each computer for file access and especially for setting up for games.
