Good N-Speed router for the 360

I have a Time Capsule for my regular router and my 360 isn't near an Ethernet port. I've just been sharing the internet connection off my MBP, but I want to get a wireless router to bridge for the 360 (and maybe plug a slingbox into as well).

Can anyone suggest an N speed router that's not too expensive that will work as a bridge for the 360?

Why do you want N? Getting N right now is just a waste of $$$. Just find a good G router with all the features you need. Even if you have a Macbook Pro that supports N, it's still in draft and no way would I ever recommend someone getting N unless they buy all thier N products from one company to make sure it's going to work.

I was wondering about that, whether N speed is really a boost in speed or just hype. I'm far from a network admin, so I was just going the safe route. But if it wont be a noticeable difference, I may as well just get a WRT54G on the cheap.

It's called Draft N for a reason cus it's still not finalized yet. N is different for different companies.

G is already faster than your Internet connection (most likely), so N isn't going to do anything for you.

Unless you already are using draft n gear, g will work fine. I currently use 2 Linksys WRT54GL that I flashed with tomato firmware and have the xbox on the wireless and it works fine. The only problem I've really ran into is that I live in an apt and there are a lot of people using wireless here.

In the networking forum they also have good things to say about Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 and Asus WL-520gU both can be flashed with tomato or dd-wrt if needed. I've read quite a few posts over there that are saying the Asus router is better than the Linksys one.

I recently just had to buy a "draft-n" router, and it is Way faster than my 54gl ever was. N isn't faster no, but the routers themselves are more powerful. Get N is you have cash, it can handle more, simply that. THIS has nothing to do with bandwidth.

I had a 54g 54gl, both worked well, but after using my friend's 4ghz P4 northwood set up as a router, I knew I was missing out. I didn't want to build a pc just for a router, so i just bought an N router.

All it does really is say you want to download your pr0n AND play your games. It'll handle that better than most of the G Routers. Also file transfers from one computer to another can get up to about 30MB/s versus 8-10MB/s on all my old routers

I'd imagine most people buy more powerful routers for network file transfers. Anything beyond G for just internet isn't really needed unless you have something extremely good.

Correct. But if you're torrenting large files, and try to play games, Your ping will be terrible, and the connection MAY become unstable. This is less likely to happen with a more powerful router.

I was also under the impression that LAN transfers were significantly faster.

So if you were to, say, wirelessly stream video from your networked PC to your 360, an N router give better results.

So it seems like you just got a better router and have nothing else N to use the advantages that Draft N brings so how does that make N better? You're still using G so how does N have anything to do with it. You could have gotten a good G router and gotten the same effects. Saying just because your router has Draft N capabilities and automatically makes the routers better makes no sense.

mmm.. I've HAD good G routers, and they just don't work as fast. like i said transfers between computers were topped at 10MB/s, and If I was torrenting heavily, the Ping was terribly high and it'd drop connections. PERHAPS a REALLY good G router would solve this.. BUT that is essentially what an N router is, A BETTER G router.

You people are so stubborn. I mean this is only the 'internet.

significant yes, but fantastic NO. It tops at 30MB/s Not bad, still less than the speed of the hard drive itself, so Great, but could hope for more.

Good enough to say, stream more than one 50gb bluray over network, but not fast enough if you want to copy a terabyte of data, which would take forever at 30mb/s
