Good Multimeters

You want to look for one that handles sufficient current for what you want to work with fused. (Cheaper DMMs will advertise a high current, while a much lower current is actually available through the fuse.)

True RMS is also a good feature to look for.

A lot depends on what you want to do with it. I find that my 25yr old Radio Shack analog meter does everything I need. Start at Radio Shack, if you do not know exactly what you need then get a mid priced one and use it to learn more about what you need. For my purposes, ie round the house troubleshooting, you need DC Voltage, AC Voltage, and Resistance scales. Very rarely do you need to measure current so I, personally, would not be much concerned with those scales.
