We had 5 across the street last night, down from a record high of 13 one evening last fall.

Yo, Brother!
Morning, Admiral, you remain one of my favorite posters!

Methinks we must take care not to totally reveal our white fire felinity to these bipedal apes so numerous hereabouts.

Guess, if I like venison sausage, I won't be coming to breakfast at your house?

Or, is it, that you have not yet confronted your fear of bones? :D

Wow, too bad that wasn't my back yard this morning... I'd have her hanging by now. I was just thinking of taking a walk to see what I might see this morning... turkey season opened yesterday; I could go for a nice fresh wild turkey for dinner tonight.

I envy you. You live in God's country, my friend.

I can't be discharging firearms in my backyard, the gendarmes would surely frown upon it (though my former neighbor used to shoot off his .22 in some rough semblance of target practice all the damn time, and got away with it).

Bow season for deer right now. When I lived in the city, I shot my bow only 1 day in my backyard. I had my target set up, and an 8ft x 4ft piece of plywood as a backer, in case of a bad shot.

Well, I was off the bullseye by about 6 inches, hit the top left corner of the target; not much fill in that area. The arrow passed through the target, hit and went straight through the sheet of plywood. That was the last time I ever shot the bow in the city. I should have known that a sheet of plywood is inadequate for stopping an arrow.

:D

When I had my fawn Great Dane, Bogie*, we used to go deep in the Crum Woods, Delaware County, Pa. daily, and I always used to worry a bit during the different hunting seasons.

But at least the guys we came accross were respectful locals, and not beered-up day-trippers.

*Shown in this photo patiently allowing himself to be sniffed by that mook's much lesser Dane. :p

Darn you!! There's a price to pay for living in the sticks: dial-up. I went, fixed a steak and cheese sandwich for lunch, grabbed a can of soda, came back, attempted to open a few threads and wondered what happened to my connection. Oh yeah... that picture is still loading; about 20% done.

Another month til I have to put posted signs up along my property. Our area (the state land) is consistently listed as one of the best areas to go hunting in the state. I don't know what they're talking about; there are very few deer left. I think the results are based on some flawed analysis - there are so many hunters that they practically eradicate the deer each year; i.e. the numbers are high only because the number of hunters is unreasonable. I hunted here once several years ago (on the state land) - from where I was positioned, I could see hunters in every direction around me - at least 10 other hunters were visible. And, with half of them shooting 5 times at running deer, it's a wonder that no one has been killed. I vowed to never hunt there on opening day again.

edit: I hate posted signs; I only put them up during shotgun/rifle season to keep out hunters I don't know. The signs come back down at the end of deer season.

My bad -- big dog, big file.

And, yeah, posted signs -- sometimes an unpleasant necessity.
