Hey guys, i'm looking for a decent DDR3 motherboard for overclocking a C2D (E8500), without going extravagantly. What'd a decent one that can reach high FSB's overall? Should i get a X48, P45, or 790i Ultra?
(It should fit a Thermalright 120 extreme and be decently featured)

WoW,

DDR3 is Expensive...you don't need that kinda memory at all man!

Maybe if you had a water block and you were wanting like 533fsb or something crazy!

I've heard good things about all those boards. P45 supposedly is the most stable OC'er but the x48 and 790 ultra (Which isn't extravagant at all:)) also perform quite well.

My main question is that do you plan on using two video cards? If so Nvidia or ATI?

If you have the money, go for it. But even with an 8500 you will need atleast DDR3 1600 to be under the memory spec to bring your 8500 to 3.8Ghz and going with 4Gb of DDR3 isn't cheap. Just keep in mind if you are considering a high fsb, the mobo should atleast have some kind of good NB cooling like a heat pipe. Or you can do it my way and rest an 80mm fan on top of the vid card and face it towards the NB heatsink. But if you buy two video cards you are in the 'then' area. Like if you go with two ATI cards, then you should get an Intel mobo chipset. If you go with two Nvidia cards, then you should get a 790i Ultra mobo chipset.

I'd say if you are only going with one vid card, the P45 would be a good choice since it uses a smaller die size for the NB

Probably a 4870 or 4870X2. I most likely won't be running XF.
Yeah, after shopping around for DDR3 it seems kinda expensive.
So, lemme rephrase? Good, Decently priced OC'er for an E8500, with DDR2. Hoping to reach ~500FSB easily. Any specific brands? ASUS, Gigabyte, DFI, etc? Or do all chipsets overclock ~equally?
(I probably will run a TRUE-120 or an IFX-14 and the mobo's passive heatpipe cooling, with a couple of Nexus fans here and there)

The E8600 with E0 stepping will be out shortly
