I'm tired of the rough, cheap cotton / polyester sheets on my bed, and I'm willing to pay for something nice. I'm looking for something fairly silky and smooth, but I also want something that isn't going to wear out in a few wash cycles.

I've searched through several local department stores as well as Amazon, but I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for. I like the feeling of Sateen, but many of the reviews I've read state that some of the cheaper sets loose their silkiness quickly.

Any recommendations? I have a queen-sized bed, and I'm looking for a fitted sheet, flat sheet, and at least two pillow cases. Ideally, I'm looking for a brand to look into, as simply searching for "<material> sheets" or "<number> thread count sheets" brings up a lot of cheap imitations. I'd be more than happy to spend $100-200 for something worthwhile, but I'd be even happier if I could get away cheaper.

I've had a lot of luck with the organic cotton sheets at target. I think a full size set (fitted, flat, two pillow cases) goes for around $30 bucks so I'd imagine queen goes for 40-50. They feel pretty nice to me and they don't do that thing where they ball up and get itchy (at least none of my sets have). I've been rotating through a couple of sets for the past year or so. The color selection is pretty crappy though, but I don't care, they feel pretty good.

I think the organic is a gimick, but they are nicer than their regular sheets. They probably aren't hotel linen nice, and there probably is nicer, but thought I'd throw this out there.

I don't know if it's true - but one thing I heard is that a 100% material type will help. Blends tend to do that thing where they make those little ball's that stick out and are itchy.

For the really nice stuff you can pay $1k or more for a set, so I don't know what you can get for $100-200.

I might try for some linen (as in flax) sheets next. Nice and cool in the summer.

Bamboo sheets. Cool in the summer, warm in the winter. Do not get "pilly". Don't know a brand, but check Amazon reviews on some or something.

Wash only with vinegar to maintain the awesomeness.

Very reasonably priced. Easily with in your budget. I THINK I paid about $80 Canadian for the pieces you want (incl. 2 pillow cases)

Feel very silky and smooth.

See if you can find some locally so you can touch them to see how awesome they are.

EDIT: I got mine here http://www.quiltsetc.com/product.aspx?productid=146&deptid=10

But I think it's in Canada only. $95.99 for all the pieces you are after in Queen size.

I love the feel of cotton sheets but I guess I'm just a simple guy. I've slept on silk sheets before and it felt weird.
