Good lowcarb snacks?

Don't worry about "low-carb"....think "low Glycemic Index" instead.

Unless you're doing Atkins or something, that is.

Not Atkins specifically, but I'm on a low carb / high protein diet.
Well, sticking to low GI foods for snacks will allow you a greater range of stuff to pick from without triggering a bigass insulin cascade (which is, I assume, the point of a low-carb diet?)

I like macadamia nuts. String cheese is good, as is beef jerky.

But I find that after being on a high protein-low carb diet for a while your urge to snack goes away. My appetite has diminished greatly in the last couple of weeks, and I feel stuffed after eating a relatively modest sized meal. I don't have a scale, but I know I've lost a good amount of weight in three weeks. I'm wearing a pair of jean shorts that I couldn't even button a month ago, and they're loose enough I can pull them off without unbuttoning or unzipping! 😀

The only carb intake I usually get is from Rice I eat. That's once a day.

I usually have a High Protein intake, with vegetables.

I'd say go with nuts or something.
If not.. get one of those Low card bars that's high in protein.

Pork Rinds...very low carb, but got that good crunch. Spicy BBQ is a great flava, so is Limon.

I thought I was gonna hate pork rinds, but I actually quite like them... DO not get the unflavored though. I couldnt stand them

I know whatcha mean, though my urge for snacking hasn't diminished for the month I've been on the diet. I'm supposed to eat 5 times per day, but I eat MAYBE 3 if I'm lucky. I try to snack on veggies in between, but I plain forget. I also try to drink at least a gallon of water a day (partly sugar free koolaid)...

In any case, I've lost another 2 inches off my waist! I've lost 6 inches in the last couple of months. I'm in pants that I haven't worn in.... darn I say, 4-5years. 😀

I still cheat everyone once in a while and eat a sandwidth or something, but it's rare.

Anyway, keep the snack ideas coming!

btw, I just went to the store and bought some mixed nuts and beef jerky. 😀

Atkins Advantage low carb snack bars. Cookies 'n Cream, and Chocolate Decadence being my favorites. </Homer drool...> I've eaten them since day one on Atkins and it hasn't slowed my weight loss down a bit.

Reminds me of the pork rinds I had in Mexico. They were homemade and unlike american pork rinds - they had pieces of pork still attached. Mmmmmmmm SO good.

Atkins Advantage bars are good, but relatively expensive. It's really a shame that I simply cannot stand pork rinds. 🙁

I've been doing the low carb thing for seven weeks now, and lost 21.5 lbs (thank you, thank you. 😉 ) I don't really snack much at all, unless there's a long period of time between meals. About the only suggestions I have that haven't already been suggested are:

Strawberries and whipped cream... A 1/3 cup of strawberries and a good spray of Reddi Whip has ~4-5 grams.
Summer sausage... Hickory Farms, or whatever your favorite brand is.
Low Carb tortillas... Can fill 'em up with all sorts of sandwich stuff, salsa and cheese, etc.

Btw, I have a "Low Carb" thread going in Private Topics. If anyone wants to be added, let me know. 🙂

Careful there, OverVolt...

Bananas have ~35 grams per cup (sliced). That's the same as Bryers Premium Ice Cream!
Meatballs often contain bread crumbs, which have a bunch of carbs.
Apples have ~17 grams per cup (sliced).
A 2.5" diameter orange has ~17 grams.

So, I guess it depends on what you define "low carb" as. Any of the above would be more than I am currently willing to intake. (I average between 20 and 25 grams per day.)

Not all carbs are created equal. The carbs in an apple are much less likely to spike insulin as the carbs in bananas.

Aye, I like to have a tunafish sandwich and a banana for my post-workout meal. Tunafish, because I like it (in addition to the fish fats and some protein) and the banana for some additional potassium. 🙂

Very true. It depends on your definition of "low carb" and what you are trying to achieve.

Fausto1 also made a very good (and similar) point about GI.
