I am looking for a good little home gateway router from my cable modem. Right now I am partial to the netgears, but I don't know too much about how the perform. I need a few things, the primary being low latency. I don't want this little box messing up my ping when i go gaming. What I am looking for is below, and any suggestions would help tremendously. I really only know anything about linksys and netgear's products.

1. Low Latency ( < 5ms ?? reasonable?)
2. Unlmited port mapping :)21 points to 192.168.0.2, and such)
3. Decent firewally capabilities.
4. 4 or 8 port integrated 10/100 switch
5. Works well with icq/others
6. Telnet/Web remote admin.
7. Around 200 bucks. $250 is probably the max.
8. Whatever else is good too have that I am not aware of or can't think of right now.

Any help in my search would be much appreciated.

TIA

I have a D-Link 804 and it's lame. Gaming is fine but it slows down browsing. I just use a switch for local gaming and I don't even use the router anymore because it's so slow. Don't get an 804.

I've got the Linksys BESFR41 and it performs the tasks I need flawlessly. I've got five boxes connected to it. One doing domain controller/print server/IIS/Exchange 5.5/DNS and one of them running Serv-U FTP daemon. It's connected to the net with a dynamic PPPoE DSL connection and everything works perfectly. Network transfers are blazing, serving is fine. I have to static route and port forward, but it's not limited in any way and accomplishes this greatly.

For it's price and ease of use (<$100), it can't be beat. They still haven't worked out the kinks with the UPnP protocol yet....expect the next firmware release to have it mastered.

All file sharing progs work great as well as all chat clients.

The Linksys BESFR41 can be had for around ~$80 at dell.com.

There may even be a coupon out there for 15% in dell home & home office.

It's a great router. Got mine about 3 weeks ago.

I used to have this same problem with my DI-804. Updated to a new Firm-ware version and it worked great.

Other than that I have no complaints on the DI-804 other than the firmware has not been updated in a little while.
