good low-end laptop?

i'm looking at getting a laptop (my first ever) and after doing some research i've settled on the hp pavillion series as being best for what i want. i really like that they include svideo out and a remote; very handy for hooking up to the tv to show family photos, etc. i also like the included firewire port and sata hard drive - seems like many others use pata on low-end machines. finally, it seems like hp includes vista premium on less expensive machines than their competitors, and includes 1gb of ram which should be enough for aero (it's enough on my desktop). however, before i make the leap, i was wondering what the experts here think. in particular, i'm looking at this machine from circuit city. thoughts?

thanks,

joe

already checked hot deals ... not much there in the way of laptops, and not in my price range. really looking to keep it pretty cheap, without becoming a completely worthless piece of junk!

I got my wife one of the Acer laptops. We like it much better than the Compaqs or HPs we've used. It actually has room for RAM upgrade with normal RAM and other niceties. Was a low-end machine (she's internet, office apps user).

HP makes good laptops, so stick with them. The one in your post seems nice.

Acer have horrible reliability, so stay away from them.
