These little boxes (4 inch woofer, 1 inch tweeter) - 7" x 12" x 8" - have been getting rave reviews from the DIY crowd, who are usually pretty critical of cheap commercial speakers.

Something like these would be perfect for surrounds, desktop, or bedroom speakers. Probably much better than low-end Genelec, Mackie or MAudio, although I have not heard any of those.

Thanks, also found out that these are available at Best Buy. The tower versions of these are an amazing bargain at $200 for a pair if they are as good as peeps are saying.

I build a lot of DIY, and I can't build quality at those prices.

I've heard the larger bookshelves are quite an improvement over the smaller ones.

It looks like Pioneer.com and BB only have the SP-BS21, not the larger SP-BS41. The 41 has gone on sale before, but it's MSRP is very close to the floor standing SP-BS51.

SP-BS41 on amazon:

In any event, I have read more than a few times that this speaker line is worthy of all the attention it has been getting

I haven't read the article in depth but Stereophile's budget review guy mentioned that Pioneer line in the last magazine. Sounds like a pretty crazy product.

How much could be worth JBL 2600 pair:

on Ikea stands:

Both woofers on JBL 2600 replaced with Daytona, which gives actually more bass than original....
