I'm looking for a mouse-only unit, one that has the USB receiver without any annoying cords. It's going to be used only for my laptop when I'm away from home or my desk (I have a wireless desktop at my desk and I don't want to lug it across the country). There's a few around, but they're brands I'm unfamiliar with. I also see a couple offerings from Logitech and MS, but I don't know if they have the cordless receiver? Thanks.

Thanks. That's one of the units I was looking at, I have a Logitech wireless desktop for it already and need something I can travel/school with. What's the battery life like and does it affect the laptop's battery any?

well i forget to turn off the mouse over night and it still lasts me over 2 months on a pair of AAs. i'm not sure if the USB receiver uses up the laptop battery, but i would assume it isn't too much of a drain.

There is also the logitech V400 which uses a mini reciever but as you can see by my post today who knows when it will get onto store shelves. Logitech also has a MX610 which is a 5 button cordless with a mini reciever.

I believe MS has a few mice coming out soon as well.

I don't need/want anything fancy. Just something reliable, comfortable and portable. It's a big laptop so anything extra is just that much more bulk and weight. Not going to be used for any serious gaming, mostly schoolwork.

my mistake it's a pair of AAAs. i considered an actual full size wireless mouse, but stowing one in my laptop bag with the power brick, ipod+charger, and headphones was going to make my bag bulkier then it needed to be.

I have "normal"? hands I guess. Would prefer something that's more compact I suppose, since it will be travelled with some. Going back East next weekend and I like to travel light, especially flying. What is the difference between the V400 and the V500? I can get the 500 for $30 instant rebate.

edit: nvm, 400 is laser while the 500 is optical. Is there any benefit for either? I've only ever had optical mice.
