The HD in my toshiba blew up and I was looking for a replacement. Anyone have any recommendations? My old one was a 4200 and was terribly slow, I was looking at:

and possibly:

http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=22-146-036&depa=1

I'm pretty familiar with desktop HDs but when it comes to laptops I'm not as sure who makes a good HD etc. Obviously the second one will be faster since it's a 7200 rpm drive but I'm looking for something that will last me as well. Thanks!

Hitachi makes good laptop drives, and from the description it shouldn't cause heat problems.

Samsung is another good brand, so either one is a good choice, depending on your budget and how much speed you want.

The 2nd one would probably suit your need. First of all it is 7200 rpm, so it will be significantly fast. Hitachi is a well-known brand as well. Dell and other companies uses Hitachi. Also the hd also emits very little amount of heat, so you don't have to worry about your lap being on fire.

Go with the Hitachi. I have the 60GB version and it is noticably faster. It runs cool and quiet also.

Great price on that drive! I didn't notice that they started producing the 7200RPM Travelstars in 40GB. I have the 60GB version-- very highly recommended. Snap it up.
