looking for a good laptop for $700 and under

just for general use

this laptop is for my mom. She mostly uses the internet, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, listens to music

so for laptops is celeron better or Pentium M better. So also travels a lot like out of country and so does centerino help (mobile technology)?

how about AMD?

You'll have a tough time finding a Pentium M laptop for $700. A celeron laptop should easily suit her needs.

The link I sent you represents about as much Laptop as you can buy 'New" for $700. Yes...it should be plenty stable and the Intel offerings in laptops are generally better suited than AMD from a power consumption standpoint. To get a Intel Centriino moble processor laptop you would have to add at least $200 to this price.

Compaq R3000z can be had for $500 often with Athlon 64 and very nice screens.

They are a little heavy, but can still get 3 hours of battery life.
