Just wondering what a good joystick would be. Use to have one a really long time ago and I can't even find it.

Tried the Flight Sim X demo and loved it. Will probably get the full version just wondering what a good joystick (or w/e you call it) to get?

Keyboard and mouse kinda suck for this.

And as much as the Xbox controller works good for somethings on the computer, this needs a joystick.

I'd recommend the Microsoft Force Feedback 2, it's several years out of production and the only place to get it is on Ebay. It's also quite a bit more expensive than it was new, they're very popular with the flight sim crowd.

Some people think force feedback is a gag, but it's not. For example in IL2 when you start on the runway your stick is without tension, as you increase airspeed to takeoff you feel the resistance growing, it's very natural. This is also great when you're in a dogfight because you start to judge your airspeed based on the stiffness of the stick, not on some dial or readout, not to mention stall warnings from buffeting.

If you're hardcore you'll need to add a throttle quadrant, most pick the CH Throttle some use Saitek.

Thanks.

I was looking at the CH products but for a throttle plus a stick is $200. I little much for me.

I was looking at This one (Saitek) comes with the stick and the throttle.

I'm not looking for anything super high end here. Just enough to get what I want done.

That's probably a good bet, even maybe a bit too much depending. One of my squadron mates from the UK beta tested some of the stuff for Saitek, he really likes them. I've had reliability issues in the past but I'm a bit rough on hardware.

Saitek is also releasing the new av8r soon, it looks pretty sweet and also has the dual throttles which you might like. I'd still recommend a force feedback over anything else though, especially since FSX has the much improved feedback effects. Maybe try to test it out before you commit the cash, your choice. Saitek makes the Cyborg Evo Force.
