Looks like my debit card was compromised!

Chase called and emailed me last night to verify 2 transactions that they declined. One was a $2 redbox charge halfway across the state from where I live, the other was a $700 Walmart purchase halfway across the country!

Bastards!

But hey, good job Chase, saved me a headache!!

Very impressive on Chase's part. American Express caught fraud on my card once but it was a lot more obvious (utility bill in California charged to my account, I live in New England). Catching the redbox is especially impressive. I'm guessing your two fraudulent charges were supposedly done in person at almost the same time.

BTW your experience is why I never use debit cards except for ATM use. I don't want funds in my account tied up while the bank researchs the fraud claim. Credit cards are the way to go-just make sure to pay them off in full each month on time.

Had the same thing happen at a Rite-Aid in Penn., while I was living in Germany...

Good on em for calling to verify. +1 for Chase.

I'm considering purchasing fraud protection (lifeguard or TransUnion). It's funny how this happened right after we closed on our house. Things happen when your credit report is sitting at some mortgage office somewhere.....

anyone here use identity protection services?
