I'm looking to start investing. I don't want to start a discussion about stratagies for investing but I do need a place to start. I'm a total n00b when it comes to personal finance. Where is a good place to start? I know that I need to set up my retirement accounts but where do I go from there?

Where is a good place, hopefully online, to start investing? Etrade? Vanguard?

Thanks I've been reading a ton of stuff on that site. Finally a site that breaks it down for financial n00bs like me.

What brokers do you guys use?

Schwab is good if you can put at least $50K into your combined non-retirement and retirement accounts (IRA, 401k rollover) but otherwise you'll pay some high account maintenance fees.

Vanguard.com is a great place for retirement accounts, since it has a low minimum ($5K) to avoid fees, and you get their excellent funds like VFINX (S&P 500 index) without paying any trading fees.
