Good imaging software solution

I have a laptop, looking to replace the main drive, most likely to a SSD.
I have an external via USB I can mirror the drive and then place on a new hard drive, any solutions people have used before?

Google searches turn up a ton of stuff, just curious if anyone has first hand experience doing this.

-I'd rather not do a fresh install if possible.

EDIT UPDATE: Reporting back - worked perfectly.

I popped the new drive into the second bay, ran clonezilla via USB, and it copied over, swapped disk into my main slot and all good and working.
