good idea? or bad idea? aka freesco on laptop doable?

I might be getting a 486 laptop with 16 mb ram, 500 mb hard drive, think i could put 2 pcmcia nics in it and make it into a linux router?
oh also i dropped it onto a cement based tiled floor from a hight of over 3 ft, think that might effect the hard drive at all?
 
Well, hardware wise, that should be plenty to run a linux router. However, getting linux to install on that laptop might be a chore. If the machine has any proprietary hardware in it, it might not install at all.
