Good HSF for Barton 3200..?

I am buying an oem, socket A, athlon xp 3200 barton, and im looking to buy a good fan for it.
Which one can i get? Prices? So far ive been recommended the Thermaltake Silent Boost..
Or the Coolermaster Jet 7..
The Jet7 is heavier and louder, but damn those red and white LEDs!
Will its fan controller fit in a generic "codegen" case? If so, where? [dumb question?]
Any other choices? Opinions? [and no, dont tell me to get an a64 cpu instead!]
I need a decent, not too loud, fan, im not really gonna overclock the cpu.
Thanks y'all!

that Silent Boost would be an okay choice if you aren't overclocking an insane amount. That's what I cooled my mobile Barton @ 2250mhz with for months @ about 52C load. I recently switched to an SLK-800/80mm fan that runs ~ 42-46C under load depending on how fast I let the fan spin. 😀

FYI, I bought the SLK-800/fan combo for $20 shipped off of the FS/FT forum, and sold my Silent Boost yesterday for $15 shipped. Head over there to see if you can catch a good deal!

Do not get a thermaltake fan under any circumstances. You would be almost better off with the stock fan.

Get an SLK-947U, couple it with a Panaflo Fan 80mm or 92mm, and put some AS5 on there. Youll be running around 40C in no time.

But, you see, im no good at all this! Im gonna have someone install the HSF combo for me, im not into doing this stuff. And neither am i going to overclock. But i am in india, where usually temps are in the 30s. So i need a something quality, and something easy to do.

SLK-900A+VANTEC TORNADO (80MM OR 92MM)

Mobile 2400+ @2.4Ghz 45C full load 38C idle

that would be the ultimate air cooling, but probably a little overkill for you. i'd use an Thermalright SLK-900A, and a 92mm Panaflow

The Vantech Aeroflow is a good HS+F and very easy to install.

Yeah there is.... the Jet 7+ is loud and cannot come anywhere close to cooling like a thermalright oir vantec or zalman can.

i dont care what gamingphreek says, TT makes some pretty good stuff. I'm getting a Venus 12 cpu fan, a Tsunami case, and a Silent PurePower psu, all from thermaltake.

Good do i care what you do. People ask advice and i give it to them... you dont hae to talk down to me, and make me feel bad or something.

I garauntee you that all of those thermaltakes are going to be noisy. The Tsunami is going to be OK but flashy, and noisy, and the Pure Power is going to be decent but not near as good as Antec Enermax or OCZ. Lastly that Venus 12 is going to SUCK! It pales in comparison to Thermalright and Zalman. Its going to be N-O-I-S-Y, and it isn't going to cool worth crap.

thermalright slk-900 or higher is your best bet, i have an slk-800 with a 92mm panaflo and with the fan at 1500 rpm i get 41c idle on my 2500+ oc'ed to a 3200+

The SLK 900A is a good choice, but I'd actualy suggest Thermalrights new SL90 it's the XP90 excpet for socket A and it's basicly the best performing Socket A heatsink money can buy at this point w/ med. or low speed fans, if your using a tornado fan or something w/ crazy cfm then some of the all copper HSF's may cool a bit better but aslo not the SL90 doesn't cost all that much and is alot lighter than most all copper HSF's

The new Thermalright heatsink is called SI-97, not SL-97. Most of the dealers that specialize in cooling have them for $35 and the larger vendors are slowly starting to get them as well. If you're not going to overclock, I would get a 2000-2500rpm 92mm fan, preferably a Y.S. Tech. 92mm Panaflos are pretty much all "Made in China" now and are far worse than they used to be.

Far worse than they used to be!?!? Panflos are the hands down best fans on the market. What are you talking about.

I don't know about "far worse" but there is said to be a difference between the Panaflows manufactured in China vs. Japan.

Y.S. Techs are awesome, do you know any good places to buy them?

I had that HSF for my Barton and loved it to death. Had a non-mobile Barton 2500+ and OC'd it to 2.4GHz with that HSF & some Arctic Silver 3. Gotta love the AXP's 😉

The difference between old Japan Panaflos is best noticeable at 5V. if you run an old "Japan" L1A at 5V you will hear almost nothing. If you get a "China" Panaflo chances are quiet high that at 5V you will hear a very noticeable "clicking". The "Japan" 92mm L1s always had some clicking and some bearing noise, which was quite annoying. The "China" 92mm L1s make far worse "clicking" and bearing noises. I have one 92mm "China" L1 and its a lot noisier at 1500rpm than my "Japan" 80m L1A at 1850 rpm while pushing less air. I also have twenty "China" L1As and none of them is as good as my "Japan" L1A but they are still better than the 92mm L1.
Check out the forums at silentpcreview.com and you will find exactly what I told you.

These guys have the SI-97 in stock: http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-b...zencpu/cpu-tri-14.html

I would definitely not get the Jet 7+ since it's one of the worst heatsinks performance and noise wise. If you've got 4 mounting holes around the socket, the Zalman 7000 would be a great choice: http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=35-118-108&depa=0 The Zalman also has a fan controller included, so you can adjust the noise level. Be sure to check compatability of your motherboard at Zalman's website, I know that there is at least one board with mounting holes that is incompatible (can't remember which).

I agree, the Jet 7 is a junk heat sink with high speed fan thrown on top to compensate for its crappyness. For the price the Zalman is hard to beat, excellent peformance and quality for the money.

im way too confused now. im gonna get a technician to install this stuff, but i doubt even a technician will know how to install anything but a stock HSF [am in india]..i almost ordered the jet 7+.
Noones staying under my 30$ budget, all this zalman talk is fine, i dont have that money!
Something that easy to install on my a7n8x-x, moderately-cheap 30$ or less, and offers good performance at stock clocks..FINAL opinions? firm no to both the jet 7+ and the silent boost?
my, how things have changed.
