Good heatsink which will fit on a Biostar M7NCD Pro?

I just upgraded my kids PC from a Duron 1800 to an Athlon XP 2100+ tbred CPU. I was using the 2100+ at 2700+ speeds (by increasing the FSB from 133 to 166) on another motherboard in conjunction with a big Thermaltake heatsink (don't remember the exact model, but it's really big and heavy). Unfortunately there are clearance problems on the M7NCD Pro motherboard with this heatsink, so it's currently setup to use the cheap Kingwin aluminum heatsink I was using with the Duron. With the Kingwin heatsink, temps hover in the mid 40 C (between 44-48 C) at idle and I get random system crashes and reboots when I try to OC the CPU. Does anybody know of a decent heatsink which will properly fit in the M7NCD Pro which will allow me to OC the new CPU?

Thanks!

First, welcome to the AT Forums.

Spending more than a Spire/Masscool (sold under both names - same co.) WhisperRock or FalconRock costs is wasting money, IMO. Used to be that the Falcon series had a copper core while the Whisper series was all aluminum but they seem to have mixed up their naming convention recently - I'd choose one with a Copper core. They are big, chunky HSFs whose 80mm fans generally run quietly. And due to their sloped sides, they can fit mobos where the CPU socket is fairly tightly surrounded by big caps, etc. Pick one with the three hole clip for easier and more secure attachment. Remove the fan before you mount the HS, then reattach the fan - will make mounting much easier. I often will tie the top of the fan (finger guard) to the bottom of the PSU (or whatever else is above it in a tower case) with zip tie(s) or twist-tie to take some of the weight off the CPU socket

Due to their low cost, they could benefit from a nice surfacing (lapping), but will work well enough without it. They come with a patch of HS goop already applied - easily removed if you wish to use another goop.

If you need a more compact HSF, I also like the Thermal Integration, Dr. Thermal V77L. Very effective for its size - also responds well to re-surfacing. The standard fan is quite feisty but works nearly as well when turned down 33% (2/3 of full speed) for less noise. This is probably the best designed Sock-A HSF at the price. It's the one I'm using right now.

Last I knew, Newegg carries all the above. Most can be had elsewhere too - frequently at lower prices than the egg. You know what to do...
