Well, what are you looking for?

Open? Closed?
Style? Best quality while compromising comfort? (e.g. Grado SR-80s)

etc.

You're better off using a headphone amp for them, if you're concerned about sound quality.

dont really care about style as long as they are comfortable and have good quality. Just need something to enjoy my music at night without waking up roomate. dont anything too fancy! if its under $100, even better!

While not headphones per se, the Shure E2Cs seem to be pretty nice. If you only have $100 I would recomend against the SR-80s as they really need an amp to live up to their potential.

i second the e2c reccomendation. they have some serious sound quality for under $100. awesome entry level cans. you might see if you can find some used etymotic er6s too, they will sound very good at that price point WITHOUT needing an amp (will help a lot, but not necessary for these guys to sound great).

e2cs are good. sr80s wont do you much good, as they will probably wake your roommate up. sony mdr v6s will probably work well, very cheap and good sound, closed design. no amp needed either. of course if you want style+balanced sound that can double up as portable use, nothing can touch mdr d66sl eggos (look awesome too) for under $100. kick@$$ cans.

I would go for the HD280 Pros. I have the PX200 and IMO it's not very good, decent for portable use but for home use you can do much better. The Sennheiser HD497 isn't that bad either (it's open but doesn't leak a lot of sound). I have not tried the shure canal phones but canal phones are not for everyone. I don't use my etymotics often because of the hassle involved.

Although most high quality headphones will benefit from an amp, it is not necessary for the Grado SR-80 and Sennheiser HD280.

The Shure E2c's are not cans. You have to get used to them, but when you do they kick butt.

They go all the way in your ear creating a suction. They ar emostly used for musicians on stage to isolate from everything else.

Anything Sennheiser is generally good. Their $60 phones are incredibly good. The $600 ones are like sex for your ears.
