Good HDD recovery app?

The in-laws upgraded their hdd and formatted the old one. Unfortunately, their Quicken files are on floppies which are corrupt (been saved 50+ times). I'm looking for a program that will let me recover the old data (pre-format), preferably a freeware app. Lmk some recommendations!!

From first hand experience, I can tell you that EasyRecovery Pro 6.0 from Ontrack (www.ontrack.com) is a GODSEND. I didn't re-format my HD; however, when I installed a new HD in my system, the software which came w/ that drive decided to update software bios settings on my old HD (which wiped out the old HD's partition table). Once that occurred, my files were basically TOAST. EasyRecovery Pro did the job and recovered all my IMPORTANT DATA.

With that said, the app ain't freeware, and it ain't cheap. You can however download a trial version at their web-site to at least see what file(s) the software may be able to recover. If it doesn't even find your quicken files, don't bother purchasing it. If it finds 'em, you'll need to get your hands on the FULL version of the software to actually recover data. Good luck.

P.S. You'll likely recieve more suggestions if you post what FILE SYSTEM the reformatted HD was previously using (and what it's using now).

P.S.S. If you've written data to the HD since the re-format, you may be SOL no matter what utility you use.

It was a FAT32 reformatted to NTFS. There was some data written to it but not much. Thanks for the suggestion, am checking it out!
