Good Handgun for Target Shooting?

I am currently thinking about getting a handgun for target practice. Something that wont cost an arm and a leg for ammo if I want to shoot alot of targets. I was thinking about maybe a revolver or a .22. Anyone have suggestions at what I could look for? I am in the state of florida if that matters any. I used to go skeet shooting alot, but dont own anymore long guns. If there are any opinions I would appreciate the info.

Thanks!

Cheap?
.22lr, probably a Ruger MKII or III.

Something a bit more practical?
9mm

RUger Mk II or III, or Browning Buckmark for 22LR

As far as something bigger, 9mm is the way to go for cheap ammo.

What would I get? - A Taurus Tracker in .17 HMR. 17 HMR is superior to 22 LR and 22 magnum in every single way.

I'd recommend talking to a local gun store, handling a few handguns, then doing some price research online.

I have a walther p22 myself, and honestly a Ruger Mk II or III or a Buckmark will outshoot the p22 every time - and will have MUCH better triggers.

I would definately check out the Tracker in .17 HMR that I mentioned though.

Who the hell joins a computer hardware forum, and then proceeds to ask about target practice ? What's your regular account :p?

Not "a lot" more expensive, but the extra cost is worth it IMO.
