From a 10 second Google search I found three publicized successful defensive gun uses that same day:

Clerk defends himself against armed robber
74-year-old man stops burglary
Homeowners thwart home invasion

But since I'm not a mouth-breathing idiot, I'm not going to jizz all over myself claiming that these anecdotes prove some political point.

Edit: Actually, I'll help you out, OP. Defensive gun uses are much more common than accidental shootings, and a concealed carrier accidentally shooting the victim or a bystander is extremely rare. "Good guys with guns" are overwhelmingly safe and law-abiding people--some analyses have shown that they commit fewer crimes than cops--and using a single anecdote to paint them all as incompetent yahoos just makes you look like an ignorant dumbass. If you want a productive conversation about firearms, talk about real problems like homicides and suicides, not irrelevant bullshit like this.

You're right about much of that. OTOH, the actual # of accidental homicides is nearly 3X that of justifiable gun homicides-

That piece is just the first hit for the numbers.

DGU numbers are mostly bogus & based on a 22 year old survey in which just saying you have a gun counts as DGU-

Kleck says they found 222 bonafide DGUs directly via survey. The defender had to "state a specific crime they thought was being committed" and to have actually used the gun, even if just threateningly or by "verbally referring to the gun." Kleck insists the surveyors were scrupulous about eliminating any sketchy or questionable-seeming responses.

None of the numbers about DGU are useful other than for driving an agenda, one way or another.

Count yourself lucky if you've never been in a situation where merely stating you have a gun has an instant and tangible impact on the outcome of that situation.

I don't want a productive conversation about firearms. I'm one of the liberals that honestly doesn't want more gun control and would in fact be fine with less gun control. I'm not trying to "paint them all as incompetent yahoos." I just thought this incident was funny.

How can they be sure that shooter wasn't one of the carjackers? He sure knew enough to clean up his crime scene, which a guilty party would certainly want to do.

Yep, far more likely that is was an accomplice of the carjackers shooting at them as they made their getaway vs. some responsible gun owner with a responsible "I can't wait to shoot someone" attitude seeing his chance to.

Last time I was somewhere that somebody stated they had a gun that guy then got his ass beat by a customer at the bar.

Lol. Now that I can agree with. Sad as it may be for the carjacking victim, it is a funny situation. Especially as the nitwit good-guy knew enough to clean up the shell casings.
