So here's a question. From what I remember, unless it's changed, in Texas you can defend property with lethal force (can't remember that guy who ignored recommendations from 911 and took his shotgun to defend his neighbors house that was being robbed). Would dogs be considered property in Texas? Could the owner have shot and killed this woman legally, even if he didn't fear for his life personally?

This is a good point. If only the kid had a gun he could also have shot at a harmless puppy that posed no threat.

In Texas a dog is considered property. So, maybe?

Overall I think the stand your ground laws in Texas are mainly concerned with who is whiter and/or who is richer. It is a complex system, but it basically boils down to that a rich white person can kill anyone that is not one of those two things indiscriminately as long as claim that they were afraid for their life, property, someone else's property, or they genuinely needed kill'n.

When a neighbor hears a disturbance and calls the cops, the two youths - who are quite clearly budding sociopaths - open fire on the police with said weapons. The police use restraint and try to de-escalate, allowing the kids to fire at them for a while before finally shooting back. Girl is shot twice but non-fatally. Boy surrenders without injury.

How insane is it that in certain areas of the country, if you break into a random house, there's like a 50/50 chance you're going to find firearms there, firearms you can steal and use for whatever nefarious purpose?

How again does having more guns lying around make us more safe?
