good gpu match for a e2200 c2d

This is an old pc running vista 32 bit 4 gig DDR2 and currently has a Gt440 DDR3 version.

My sons are gaming on this and it does a decent job on oblivion and some source stuff but it is not great with tribes ascend. I have a hd4870 that I could put in it that would require a PSU upgrade, and its hot and power hungry not too mention loud. Is there a more modern gpu that the CPU could properly feed that would be better than the Gt440 that is in there?

I don't think I like the idea of a passive cooled card, but you think the e2200 would match up well with a 6770/5770?

I would look into overclocking or replacing the CPU, Tribes Ascend lists a 2.4 GHz C2D as minimum.

The cheapest card you can get.

For nvidia gts 450 or less

For amd radon 6670 or less

Can't overclock it with that mobo, tried the conductive pen mod and that did not work. Not going to buy a 775 proc at this point. Regardless at 1280x1024 and everything set to low ascend runs well enough to play, my guess is he is getting 30 fps on average with that crappy Gt440. I think I will just get a 5770 or a better PSU and use my old 4870.

a HD 7770 will be a better buy than a HD 5770 and HD 6770
