this is 110% true

Really? Ok, so answer something for me.

What came first? The ad, or the ad-blocker?

Pretty clearly the ad. Why was the ad-blocker developed? Because over-zealous marketers will do ANYTHING to get those ads out there. For the same reason all that pop-up blocker code has now been included in every major browser.

So, unless you are actually suggesting that a bunch of people decided to create ad-block software BEFORE there were ads that needed blocking, you should probably hush.

Those ads aren't there because of blocking software. They're there because someone sees a way to make money. Adblocking software exists because of insanely over-zealous marketing and annoying adds like the full-screen popups done in Java that the mods are constantly chasing.

OMG!!!! It's not even April 1st.

This like Pepsi throwback but with a website. Maybe it's fashionable to go all Geocities every once in a while?

Blame all the people using Ad Blockers

Yeah, like this eyesore of a site will change that?

  1. Right click ugly eyesore background
  2. Adblock Plus: Block image
  3. ???
  4. Profit!
That might not be 100% accurate, but close enough.

Didn't Anandtech have a malicious ad once in its ad rotation? Like other places, they use a third party for ads, so there's always a possibility. So frankly... I like ad blocking tools so I can avoid the possibility of a malicious Flash ad or something of the sort.

This.

If Anand doesn't wan't people using Ad blockers on his site, then stop with the 10 flash ads, and use images. Images don't slow / crash my browser, and don't install malware.

Anand deserves to make money on the site, so it doesn't bother me.

I don't think that selling out and turning Anandtech into an ad soup like Tom's Hardware Guide is going to help him make more money.

Hell... it was all of those obnoxious Flash ads and contextual link ads on THG that made me install an ad blocker to begin with.

Selling out? You think he should spend his own money supporting this site and forum for you?

He should use more Google text ads... those are more effective, and far less obnoxious.

If you turn-off your adblocker, you'll find the ads pretty tasteful.

Antec
GSkill
Newegg
AsRock
Intel
Coupon for Boston Market
OCZ
Microsoft

Forums and nonbusiness websites I frequent, I have no problem turning-off adblocker for them.

Yup. I got hit with some virus from an ad here. Freaking hijacked my computer and it took me several hours to get that crap off. I don't dare browse here without ad blocker now.

You are nuts. You have never clicked a banner ad on any sites you frequent.
If you never click them, why view them?

exactly

anandtech deserves ad revenue but what if no one is actually LOOKING at the ads? then they don't really deserve it from the perspective of the company who makes them..so either way someone is being screwed

i never ever buy anything from an ad i see..i buy things from word of mouth about good prices ..and i verify that those prices are good

That shit hit me on a Friday night at 6pm at work once. IT was gone and 80% of the office emptied out by then. I didn't want to call IT and look like an idiot surfing, so I spent another hour sitting there cleaning up. I'm pretty sure it was AT too that time and not some other site.

You, and a million others. No one actually clicks on advertizements. There's actually a nebulous advertizement lobby which forces companies to purchase banners and commercials for no financial benefit for their own companies. The whole thing is just a joke. Anand Lal Shimpi has banners just to troll his populace. And you are wise enough to realize it. I applaud you.
