Good gift ideas to buy someone who is going away for college?

Howdy, 😉

A GOOD good friend of mine is leaving for Penn State next Wednesday and she's having a farewell type party tomorrow. I've known her since 9th grade and I want to get her something for her. Particulary something for college, you know something, more useful than sentimental/emotional.

My budget is 100$. I was thinking of like a nice leather planner with a complete year of files from like FranklinCovey or something.

Any suggestions? Thanks

What I really wanted when I went off that is in your budget was a nice pen and pencil set. The one I had was custom made by some local guy whose hobby it was to make pens and pencils out of exotic wood.

You mean like those Montblanc pens? Those are some sweet pens but she would take it and right idiot on my forehead for spending that much on a pen. Cash is good but I want to put a little effort into this. I think an Ipod would great but it's above my limit. Birth control and condoms as a gift is tasteless.
 
Hmmm.. I'd say a nice leather organizer is a cool gift (or a palm pilot zire).. An mp3 player (flash based).. A webcam so she can chat with her "peeps" back home.. hmmm.. Hmmm.. I'll try to think of sweet gifts soon (non techie that is)..
 
OK.. Here are some gifts that are less tech minded..
- A purse or a nice book bag (like a messanger bag)...
- A nice set of earings.. Find out her birthstone or get something that goes with her eyes
- A picture frame or photo album.. make sure that a pic with the two of you is in the front (or a family picture)
- A skirt or dress- most women don't own enough... unless she's very active and hates dresses/skirts.. then get her a nice shirt or something
-Find out what the climate will be like at her new school.. if she's moving from say L.A. to a cold climate then get her a nice sweater.. if she's moving from alaska to florida then get her some nice sun-gear...
-A coffee/espresso maker.. How would I get through college without one?
- A george foreman grill.. Don't laugh.. they're VERY useful
- Something that reminds her of home.. I don't know where "home is" so I can't say..

Besides that you could go with some lingerie. Depends what sort of relationship you guys have. If it is more cool she would love that idea. It will impress any guy she is with 😎
