Good gay, Bad gay

So there is this view held by some folks in the gay community (I'll call them the 'good gays'), that the flamboyant, flaming, super-gay guys (the 'bad gays') are the cause of all our problems.

If only the bad gays would tone it down, act more normal, stop speaking with a lisp, or drawing attention to themselves in general, then everything would be ok. If only they'd stop being so damn political! Discrimination would end.

To the good gays, bad gays seem very unappealing because they are simply so... gay.

Good gays resent bad gays becuase they think the bad gays give all other gay people a "bad name".

My own view is that the "good gays" should take the time to examine where their attitudes are coming from. (I think the issue is internalized homophobia - good gays have been taught by the culture that being gay is bad, so they cringe at anything that is unashamedly flaming. Subconsciously, they believe that being gay is only OK if you are otherwise 'normal'.) I also think the flamboyant "f@gs" of this world are the true heroes. Gay rights didn't come into existence because of hiding in the closet or pretending to be "normal".

What are YOUR opinions? Don't hold back. 🙂

So what about the good heteros versus the bad heteros?

Well, exaclty. No one complains that dude X is giving all heteros a bad name when he rabbits on about e.g., his girl friend.

I think you are obviously a very sexual being that shouldn't be locked down by his pc.

Go birdie, fly... fly wherever you heart will lead! 🙂

And the last time I checked, I didn't know anybody saying that certain homosexuals were giving others a bad name.

What's the real problem here that you're posting about?

stay on topic, please.

Completely on topic. You asked for my opinion. I think you obsess about your sexuality. Do all gays obsess about the dynamics of "good gays" vs. "bad gays"? That's pretty wierd.

I think people worry too much about how others act. I don't think the "good gays" impair acceptance. I think it's just a personal choice. I'm not flamboyant or effeminate and I don't resent those who are. But I'm certainly not going to change the way I behave to advance some ideology.

What if my heart leads me to you, Coquito?

A lot of straight people are too damn uptight about the whole homsexuality thing. However, being flamboyantly gay just to be flamboyantly gay doesn't help homosexuality to be any more accepted by people.

It happens all the time. It's a debate that is on-going among the gay denizens of ATOT, for example. Some gay people here think (to take an example) Ryan gives other gay people here a bad name, because they perceive him to be too overtly gay on the forum. I disagree with this view point.

Which is funny, cuz Ryan comes off way straighter than, say, Sheepathon or Nik in Ventrilo... 😛

Pick a fight with somebody else tough guy. I ain't a'fallin' for it. LOL

I dont judge all gay people on the way one acts, just as I dont judge all black people, mexicans, asians, arabs, etc. on the way one or a few act. If dude X is being retarted gay and making it blatently obvious he is gay (aka "rubbing it in peoples faces"), ya thats annoying, but its on him, no one else.

now French people on the other hand.... j/k

I'm not sure how much this good-bad gay thing really exists in the community but, people express themselves in different ways, including their sexuality. The world would be boring if everyone acted the same way. There is nothing wrong with being flamboyant or effeminate, and there's nothing wrong with just being someone whose sexuality can't be discerned through personality. Just be yourself, that is all.

Wait so the bad gays give the good gays a bad name? and you're a good gay? so you have a bad name? 😕

In today's day bad is good
