I am new to monitor purchasing, and am looking for a great CRT monitor for gaming (I refuse to even consider an exorbitant flat panel). I?ve heard good things about Samsung and Viewsonic. The spec system is indiscernible to me, but I definitely need very good levels of detail and a high refresh rate for high-end online gaming. As for the screen size, I want at least 17 inches (16 viewable) and will increase it in degrees based on price. For those curious, I?m going to be running a Barton 2500+, Abit NF7-S, and Radeon 9800np. Thanks!

You don`t say if you want shadow mask or AG tube(type with those two visable damper wires onscreen) or price, anyway I would go with 19" if you can afford it,models like Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB ,Iiyama VM Pro 454 are both AG type.Shadow mask wise Samsung 955/957 or ImageQuest Q910 .

As for price, it seems like a good 17" CRT is around $150. I will go past that in intervals depending on the change in performance/screen size, but I doubt I'll break $220.

Edit: Okay, just read this article: http://www6.tomshardware.com/display/20011128/crt-07.html

AG sounds annoying, and the only monitors I've ever used have been shadow mask I think (I don't recall seeing 2 faint gray lines). I'm trying to find high refresh rates and low dot-pitch, but I'm really not knowledgeable in this area.

Wow, I like the Samsung 765MB so far, the reviews it's garnered are great. I looked on Pricewatch and found it was going for around $180. I can spend a bit more than that; any suggestions for an 18 or 19-inch? Don't want to pass $220 by much.
