"Yikes" for two reasons: I couldn't find a general enough sub-forum besides this one (and I have too much faith in Anandtech to go anywhere else) to ask this question first off. Secondly, I know this question is super vague and requires a lot of research; I just don't feel like I can do enough without getting an expert opinion.
Now I'm a computer technician however I've become pretty disconnected with gaming hardware. I have never even owned a notebook and I'm needing one to keep my work with me anywhere I go instead of remoting in to my desktop all the time.
In any event, I have always known Alienware to be the big boys for getting an excellent gaming laptop, however I'm not sure if their prices are over the top or not.
I don't mind paying anything up to $2,000, but I want this thing to last me a good few years and to be able to play any game with top quality settings (for at least the first year or so of ownership).
I will definitely be playing Steam games, the upcoming Bioware MMO (ToR), and probably Warcraft which I can pretty much run on my netbook anyway. I've recently gotten heavy into PC gaming and I love it, not to mention I want to replace my obsolete desktop.
I was dwindling between an i5 and an i7 as well as whether to go with an nVidia with 1.5 GB ram or an ATi Mobility.
So what's the cut and dry verdict? Am I shooting to high or can I accomplish this at a cheaper price?
I am also looking to get 15" or 17" as well as having an included keypad and HDMI out.
Any suggestions are wonderfully appreciated.
Edit: Does anyone believe this machine would meet/exceed my expectations? It's a good price it seems, am I missing something here?
