Good gaming headset for under $50

I am currently in the market for a decent gaming headset. I want one that covers my ears and is noise canceling, has good audio and a decent microphone. I would really like to keep it under the price of $50. Let me know if you guys have any opinions, deals, or anything of the like in mind. Thanks!

If you're really lookin to save some cash, you can pick up a Plantronics .audio 90 headset. Definately a huge bargain for $15. Great mic, good headphones, great bass response. (for the price, obviously)

If you want the name, go for the 150's.

another vote for the 150s.

Plantronics makes some decent headphones also. check their DSP line if you don't have a decent sound card.

Noise canceling is a gimick and any headphones that claim to have "noise canceling" messes up the purity of the sound (often making it sound like a tin can.) - Exspecly on headphones under 50 dollars.

I live in a college dorm, if that answers your question. Also, with the Sennheiser 150's I have read a few bad reviews on them at newegg. I'm just wondering, since it says that they usually poop out in one way or another after 2 moths or so, if any of you have had any experiences either good or bad with them and how long have you been using them for? Thanks for all the replies guys!

I also found the Plantronics .Audio 100's for only $10 more then the .Audio 90's. Is this worth it, or would I be better off sticking with the 90's if it were a toss up between the 2? I know this is 3 posts in a row by me, so sorry about that guys. Thanks again!

you want closed cans for noise canceling. just means they are sealed instead of open..
active noise canceling on cheap units sucks, and its only for low frequency mechanical noise anyways

I'd go for open cans as they offer more sound stage and a more realistic free flowing sound.
Also, gaming headsets with mic's built in tend to be lesser in quality and performance.

Because you live in a college dorm, I very much doubt your next door flat mates would be able to hear your headphones even if they had their ears to your door. Open cans only distract if someone in the same room/next to you is watching TV etc

For under $50 I believe you can get the Sennheiser HD 485's which are excellent and would sound much better then a PC Sennheiser gaming headset.
You can always just buy a seperate mic for $15-$20.
