I'm also wondering why... With ~$300 you can get a nice SD100 or a nice Sony.

If you end up with something different, you can probably do some trading with the flash memory you have for other flash memory in the FS/FT forum.

The CanonSD-100w/ 128 card from Office Max is a really nice deal right now. Even if the deal is dead, it will be back soon.

Well if you really want just a Fuji, go with the A210.

I would also recommend looking at the Olympus Stylus 300/400. Those cameras take xD memory as well, and are much better IMO.

Fuji originally introduced the xD media, but Olympus also uses it.

I've never had first hand experience with these cameras, but have heard good things about them.

If you're wondering about user opinions, go here: dpreview.com

Basically, browse through dpreview.com and you'll find all the information you'll ever need.

Canon sd-100 deal

Agreed. I would check out the Canon SD-100 first.

I just checked out BestBuy.com for $300 digicams (save $50 for taxes, rechargeable batteries and extended warranty).

Here are 5 excellent choices to choose from

Canon PowerShot A70 - possibly the most popular digicam on the AT forums.

Canon PowerShot SD100 - good things do come in small packages

Fuji Finepix A210 - This can be had for around $200 if you look for a Hot Deal

Olympus D-300L

Pentax Optio 33L

SherEPunjab,

Will you be paying for this with a credit card?

If yes, will it be a VISA, MasterCard or Amex?

Actually, I think they developed it together (along with Toshiba who manufactures the cards but does not use them in their cameras) as a replacement for SmartMedia.

SherEPunjab, in your situation I would probably go with a Fuji S5000... it's slightly over your budget, but it seems like a solid camera. The S3000 is less but not as full-featured.

If you want something more compact, go with the Olympus Stylus series which are durable and even water-resistant.

Olympus c5000z looks like a pretty good camera in that range. It's 5.0 MP, decent picture quality, some nice manual features as well. It looks like a toy though. It got a pretty decent review at DCRP.

i looked at the fuji s5000 or whatever. it looks bulky though, the 10x optical zoom is a nice feature. the A210 or whatever has more megapixels though, at 3.34.

should i focus on megapixels, if so, that olympus with 5.0 megapixels would be awesome i guess.

Megapixels mean nothing unless you plan on printing pictures 8x10 or larger.

Most people take pics using their digital camera for display on web sites, email, CD, etc.

So do you plan on PRINTING a lot of pics 8x10 or larger?

If no, buy the Fuji A210.

Definitely don't just focus on megapixels. Read the reviews at various camera sites to get a better idea of features and image quality.
If you don't like the size of the S5000, check out Fuji's "A" line as Ross has mentioned.

Another option: the Olympus D-560. 3MP, 3x zoom and a nice big LCD. It's last year's model so you can get it at Newegg for a VERY low $188 plus there is a $20 rebate so it's only $168 (and free shipping, too). That's a really good price.

I got the S3000 back in september and am completely satisified with it. My main selling point on it was the optical zoom.

I got the S5000 at around $300. It's a decent camera, with a great zoom. It's sort of a tweener, having more features than a point-and-shoot, but isn't quite as capable as an SLR.

big lcd's generally go hand in hand with draining batteries. truth be told, first choice are those tiny canons :D. are there any tiny cameras that use XD that is under 300? now that would be perfect...

The 560 has pretty good battery life from what I've read.

I think the smallest you're going to get under $300 is the Olympus Stylus 300/400. They're not tiny, but they're certainly pocketable.

Also, Fuji JUST announced some new A-Series cameras that are quite a bit thinner than the existing ones. They should be well under $300 when they're available.
