yes. most retail stores will be open. they *may* close early, but they should be open.

we were considering driving (14mpg car)... then we figured these buses would save us a TON of cash. From Chinatown right ? It's $10 one way only ? I thought more like $20pp one way.
 
Dunno about Good Friday. Buses from NYC to Boston run $30 round-trip, including Greyhound. I found Port Authority to be much more convenient than the Chinatown ones, which are 3 blocks from the nearest subway stop.
 
yes. 99% of stores / restaurants will be open.

I think Good Friday is one of the no-meat days, which might mean that restaurants could be more crowded (unless you're going to a steak house or something).
