Good free MMORPG?

I've never played any MMORPGs, nor have I looked into them, but I'm finding myself with a lot more free time lately.

Maybe free Wow server recommendations? Or other MMORPGs that you buy but don't have to pay monthly fees for?

Edit: It appears I should have checked the free games thread again, as it has been updated since I last checked it out. Looks like a good place to start at least.

I wouldn't try to get into them. The first time you kind of get sucked into the whole compulsive playing thing. There not that fun without a good group of people you know in real to play with it anyways.

If you must however try guildwars its kind of a hybrid mmo/mmorpg.

Btw I was never addicted to one :p but seriously you find out that fun in those games = being better than other people = time. To quote southpark "How do you kill that which has no life."

I remember logging on one time in the morning and seeing someone in my guild on. I left for like 8 hours then came back and he was still on. I was like cool we logged on at the same time or whatever then he was like no I never got off.... do you want to see yourself playing with people like that.

the last F2P mmo's I played were Ran Online and KAL Online, both are your typical hack and slash but were fairly good none the less. I only played them because my friends were playing them and I stopped when they stop. I'll have to agree with above post how you'll need friends to play with or it becomes really dull.

How's it any different from everything else we have in life? People overeat and become morbidly obese, should nobody eat at all because of their example? People watch too much TV, etc. Some even spend their lives tirelessly scanning internet forums to save others from the vagaries of MMORPGs ;) Ultimately it comes down to personal responsibility.

GuildWars is fun..and there are always people online to play. There are a lot of "quests" to complete , and arena's where you can do battle against other players. With the option of earning , and buying your own "Guild Hall" (an entire island of your choosing) and you can then wage battle's with your buddies, against other guilds at their islands or at your own. the second update to the game is out, called Factions...give a whole other continent and two more character classes to choose from...the third part NightFall is coming out soon and will make 2 new classes available.
I've been playing it since it came out last year. Took a break for Oblivion , and now I'm back playing the heck out of it. It's got to be one of the best free online games that's out now.

Hmm thats exactly what I'm looking for....something commercially produced and somewhat high-quality (been playing kal-online but its really not that great) but without a subscription. Thanks.
