Good free file hosting?

I'm looking for a good free file hosting service that would give me about 150 MB of space. I wouldn't need much bandwidth either, maybe 500MB per month, if that.

I'm a high school teacher and these files are mostly docs, PDFs, and a few jpegs for my students to download if they miss a handout. I don't need a web server though, my site is already hosted but I'd have to pay through the nose to have them host all my files too.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Setup your own FTP server and or http server. And host the files at your house. If the files are that small you can get away with it if you have some form of broadband.

I was looking at a QNAP NAS (single drive). I think I could set up one of those without too much trouble as a web or ftp server. Does QNAP make good NAS's or is there some other brand I should consider?

Many schools nowadays provide website and file hosting for faculty (and occasionally students) for free. Especially since it's a school related use I'd strongly suggest talking to your IT department. Another option, the first failing, would be to setup a Linux server on an old piece of hardware as an FTP server.

yeah, my problem is that my files ARE hosted on the school's server. We have a whole Mac OS 10.4 client server and most of the time it works great. We can login anywhere on campus and have our own desktop; it's very handy. The problem is our one guy who was our IT department was working on the cheap and he just got a much better job working in the CA central valley; we're trying to simplify everything because we'll never be able to get someone to do the job he was doing for what we paid him.

Still, I can probably get the powers that be to at least host an ftp server from the school. I'm not the only teacher in the same boat.

What about something like Windows Live Skydrive? That should give you more than enough space and not limits on bandwidth and it's free.

That looks prefect; nice simple doc sharing. Right in my price range too. 🙂

Thank you you everyone for the suggestions and help. Really. This is why I love AT.
