Good free DVD software

Hi guys.

I'm building a system with a Samsung 12x OEM DVD drive (no software.) Is there anything comparable to WinDVD available as a free download? I tried Start > Run > DVDPLAY, but it just uses whatever codec you have loaded on your system, so you still need to download a free trial that quits after 5 minutes.

There are a few sites on the Net that claim to feature DVD software, but the downloads are always broken or overloaded.

A customer of mine brought in his PC the other day and I noticed he had "PC Friendly DVD Player", which I'd never heard of. It worked very well, and he said he had no idea where he got it. He certainly never paid for it. I'm wondering if you get it for free when you rent a DVD from the store or something.

Ideas?

If you are looking for a "quality" free player, well there aren't any. If you don't mind "evaluation and then delete it" software, go HERE

PC Friendly is free on many DVDROM movies. As soo as you insert the disc, it will ask if you want to install it. I never really cared for it since I use WinDVD 2.3 MC.

one particular movie that has PC friendly DVD is Disney's Dinosaur (I know cuz the damn thing tries to load up everytime my daughter wants to watch it!) Maybe renting that will help you in your search for DVD software. 😉

Thanks, John, but I've already tried that place -- they're just free trials. I'm sure there's some kind of freeware player out there. Or maybe some place with a working download link to evaluate the software for more than five minutes?

The system is using ME. There is a DVD front end called DVDPLAY, but it still needs decoding software to be installed on your system.

Well the software I have is called WinDVD2.1 with a crack on it. It can't be downloaded anymore from the net I think, and there has not been an active crack for it either to what I beleive. But do a search on WinDVD then download as many versions of it as you can
And then do another search for WinDVD Crack, and then download as many cracks as possible for the versions you ahve downloaded and then try them out and see which one si the best.

Hope this helps 🙂

Albert.

Matrix is another DVD which has it's own player included (pc friendly I believe). That's what I used because it was my first DVD player and I didn't know any better. For a free player it's not bad at all. If you don't have the matrix, it's worth buying just for the movie.

That "PC Friendly" thing isn't a DVD player - it's usually PC-aware junk like games or promos that you can install on your PC, you can't use it to play the movie (at least on any that I've seen).

There's no free DVD player software available because to legally play a DVD, you have to have a licensed CSS decoder, which of course is not free.

You can't be trying very hard if you can't find a warez copy of PowerDVD or WinDVD on the internet.

i think he was looking for a *legal* means of free dvd software 🙂

but i think this was asked before, and because of the way DVD is done, there can't legally be a freeware dvd software player.

They must have modified the site. YGPM 😉
