I have been using Norton Intenet Security 2001 for a while now. It finally seems to be giving me problems on my new PC. Whenver I try to download something from the internet, it won't work unless I disable the internet security. I have it uninstalled for the moment, but will need soething can't of software soon. Any suggestions? (under $80 if possible)

1. Completely clean off your computer off all Norton software and restart your system
2. Install Zonealarm, a free personal firewall
3. Install AVG, Antivir, or Avast, free antivirus software packages
4. Install Spybot and Adaware, free spyware killers
5. Start using Firefox as your main brower, and Thunderbird in place of Outlook if you don't use webmail
6. Run weekly updates and weekly scans with each of those programs

If you'd like to spend a little $, I'd suggest picking up Trend-Micro PC-Cillin 2005. It's only $10 after MIR and is downloadable, too!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E1681297339SF

It is the best AntiVirus I've used, has a great network/WiFi intrusion detection monitor, spyware scanner, and a firewall as well that is moderately configurable. (can insert port ranges, unlike the Windows firewall)

It's fast, nearly no CPU overhead (equates to things loading faster and making the system more 'snappy'), scans faster than Norton, and updates itself every 3 hours throughout the day.

Read the reviews at NewEgg, too! :D

I like ZoneAlarm, but I found McAfee Internet Security Suite online for free download. I saw a link to it in the Hot Deals section, should still be there, try a search.

McAfee? Are you serious? I can't believe anyone on this forum would ever suggest that! I'd rather not use a computer than to use one with that junk. It's very obtrusive software, it's slow and bulky, doesn't catch anything in terms of AV protection, and it's just plain annoying!

Try ZoneAlarm Pro suite, it comes with firewall, anti-virus, pop up blocker, Instant messager protection and email virus checker.

I'd recommend Kerio Pesonal Firewall. I'm using an older version (2.x I think) I tried ZA for a while but it felt too bloated. Still, coming from Norton you probably wouldn't notice that ;-)
