Good file encryption these days?

I used to use PGP to encrypt sensitive files and emails. But PGP has somehow been corporatized lately, and I can't even find a good freeware no-strings GUI version anymore.

I installed a trial version of PGP Desktop 9.5, but I'm wondering if there's something else out there that's freeware, and as effective as PGP is/was, or better.

TrueCrypt FTW.

It creates an encrypted volume, however, that volume can reside in a file. You can also encrypt an entire device (hard disk, USB drive, whatever).

Oh yeah.. it works differently than PGP, in that you can't right click a single file and encrypt it.. but I kinda like this better. The interface is a lot better than PGP's, which PGP Corp has mutilated. Thanks!
