Good Eyeglasses Chain Store Experiences?

Figuring that 95% of this forum is visually challenged 😉, what is a good place to get eyeglasses? Last year I tried Sears Optical, but i'm finding out that the lenses causes a bit of visual distortion to objects (such as my flat panels at work).

Is there such a thing as Good and Chainstore?

I just want something that is decent in price, but actually uses quality glass in their frames in order to minimize distortion.

Well, for starters, the chain stores don't make the lenses. They have boxes of lenses of different prescriptions and merely cut them to fit your glasses.

If you're seeing distortion, the first thing I would suspect is the index of refraction vs. your prescription. I had problems with the same thing - anything not right in the center was distorted a bit. The place I got the glasses said "that's normal, you'll get used to it." I pointed out that as a hunter, I frequently was using the blurred section of the glasses... I don't recall the resolution - if they gave me different lenses or not.

However, I had great luck with the Optical center at Wal-Mart. Some of the best glasses I've ever had. But, I told them about the problem, and they said they'd change the something or other for me, because it was a common problem in prescriptions like mine. (base curve or something like that...)

really? I didn't know that. I just thought it was some really crappy glass they used. Never expected Walmart to provide a quality product either. I was thinking about going to Pearle Vision.

I've always gone to Pearle Vision and have never had a problem... then again, I've only had glasses for about 2 months now 😛
