I usually play through the game as good. I dont know why, I just feel bad about killing innocent people. if the game is really really good, then I'll play through a second time as an evil character.

It feels completely unnatural for me to do evil things in video games (like killing innocents, or even killing anyone if they pose no threat to me), so I almost always play as a good character. Even when I set out to be an evil character at the beginning of a game, by the end I am always one of the goody-two-shoes characters that draws the ire of the evil groups that I was trying to work with.

I usually play good aligned characters, but partly because a lot of games penalize you for being evil (like bounty hunters going after you, storekeeps refusing to do business with you, inability to advance the plot due to you killing critical characters, etc).
