Something along the lines of "Death is the Road to Awe", "Lux Aeterna", etc. I do not mean the same contemporary style, but one as gripping as the above to one that does not have a taste for most classical (like Bach, Beethoven, etc).

I know that made no sense, so throw some good instrumental music at me that conveys great emotion similar to the ones above.

Check out nearly all of Eric Whitacre's pieces. He writes primarily for chorus and for wind ensemble. My favorites are Sleep, A Boy and a Girl, October, and Lux Aurumque.

Also, check out John Adam's stuff. He's a phenomenal modern composer. Short Ride in a Fast Machine, Grand Pianola Music, and Naive and Sentimental Music are all good.

How about some Chopin. This is a fairly common example of stuff he wrote, but he wrote hundreds of songs. Perhaps I'll find some more for you.

Michael Kamen's Quintet is my favorite brass quintet piece of all time, maybe you'll enjoy it as much as I do.

Peter Roberts is an amazing soprano cornet player in Flowerdale. If this song doesn't nearly bring you to tears you are dead inside.

Concerto for orchestra by bartok, especially the 5th movement, but all the other ones are also good.

Symphony no. 4 by brahms is also really good, movements 1 and 2 more so.

Hopes this helps, although my taste may not be at all similar to yours.
