The Postman (Don't judge it by the movie)

If you're willing to expand end of the world to include dystopian futures, then you might like some of the cyber-punk authors such as William Gibson.

Well at least somebody else has read Swan Song . All of McCammon's stuff is great but thats one of his better known ones. For the rest of you people if you like The Stand you will like Swan Song and here is a Amazon link for the lazy.

Since some other people threw some zombie books out there I'll add some of my own.

The Rising and City of the Dead by Keene, Brian. This series is one of the better zombie ones I"ve read.

Autumn by Moody, David. A 3 book series and pretty typical as far as zombie books go but not bad.

The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z by Brooks, Max

Monster Island by Wellington, David kind of meh

Wild Blood by Collins, Nancy Not a zombie but kind of related. Everybody over 18 goes crazy and starts killing/eating everybody under 18.

You'll really like "Alas Babylon". It is set in the early 60's of Florida and how one guy survives the holocaust.

I Am Legend by Richard Matheson is usually seen as an all-time top ten sci-fi/horror novel.

The Last Canadian by William C. Heine seems to be hard to get a hold of lately, but I enjoyed it immensely when I read it in high school.

Wolf and Iron was very good, Footfall was very good, the Postman was as well


However, a very recent book is the best I've ever read in this genre

Quite simply one of the best, and my personal favorite.

It's only fault is being written in the 70s dates it quite badly. But if you can get past the 70s cultural references, it's the best EOTW book.

sometimes stephen king's endings just plain suck...i loved "IT' but hated the ending...

Cell is one of the few new King books I've read lately and really like well up till the end.

I keep forgetting to add Harry Turtledove's World War series. Its a what if aliens invaded during WWII series. 8 books all together in this one and they start to get pretty repetitive but they aren't bad imo.

can't say for sure that this falls into the category of story you're looking for but my wife loved the "Left Behind" series.

I haven't read them yet, as she loaned them out as fast as she read them, but it sounded interesting.

How would there be a non fiction book about the end of the world?

ok, maybe it wouldn't be totally non-fiction but more like a discussion or whatever on what the bible says or other possible reasons for the end of the world.
