Just bought a Sony DCR-SR200.
First camcorder I have ever owned...(just had a grandchild;-)
have taken some footage and imported it to my comp.
would like to try a little editing but am just experimenting at this point.
seems windows movie maker tends to have some problems with mpeg2?
what would be good software for me to start out with for editing?
looking for simplicity, low to no cost( for now) ,and mpeg2 friendly.
thx

Windows Movie Maker doesn't have any problem at all opening, editing, and saving MPEG2 files from my MiniDV camcorder. What kinds of problems are you having with it?

well trying to import the first eight clips in and it brings about 3 of them and gives an error message on the rest.

C:/blah/blah/blah/.mpg could not be imported.
An interface has too many methods to fire events from.

that and reading up on some windows movie maker websites is where I get the position it doesn't do mpeg2 well. As others noted problems as well.

Pinnacle Studio 11 or Sony Vegas Movie are 2 right off the top. If you have an nVidia card, lean towards Sony or Ulead. If you have an ATI card, Pinnacle loves it.

Interesting... where's this info coming from?

All my previous experiences with Pinnacle products have been failures - I found them to be rather buggy and unstable. Can't say I was impressed with the interface design either.

On the other hand, I've been using Ulead VideoStudio since version 5, on all my machines (Intel, AMD, nVidia, ATI) and never had a problem with it. Currently using version 11 Plus, am very happy with it.
