Looks like I'll be in Fresno for a couple days this week. I'm looking for good restaurants. Indian, Middle-eastern, Persian, BBQ preferred but anything but seafood is good to me.

Unfortunately(fortunately?) I have never been to Fresno, but I often here it referred to as the worst place in the country. :D

I would assume lack of good eats is part of that qualification?

Which part of Fresno?

North Fresno is mostly chain restaurants. Mediterranean Grill near downtown is very good. I don't eat indian food so can't comment on that. Don't know of any BBQ places either. If you want a fucking delicious burger, Doghouse Grill across the street from Savemart Center at Shaw and Cedar is AWESOME.

Oh and for Mexican food, you'll want to drive 20 miles SE of Fresno to a small town called Selma and look for a place called Sal's. Get the fancy burrito with chile verde or chile con carne.

So I'm in Fresno now. Next time I come to California I want to drive a snowplow. That way i can just plow all the left lane assholes into the median. It's probably just a function of having so many people here but California has got to have the biggest selection of clueless dumbfuck asswipe prickish useless wastes of carbon to ever molest a steering wheel. Other than that, people seem very nice.

I can confirm the truth of that.

BTW, a train smashed into a truck in Fresno this morning, killing 4. Was that you, OP?

Apparently, the crossing was unmarked, un-gated and without a signal. WTF, Fresno?

There's a crossing here with two tracks side by side. Only one of them has a gate/signal.... never quite understood it either.

No, I was busy taking an early morning exercise walk in what turned out to be a fairly bad neighborhood. Back home the gang bangers have the decency to be sleeping at 5:30am. Who ever heard of gang bangers keeping such hours? WTF, Fresno?

Tried AJ's Armenian Cuisine on Maroa. The lamb was pretty good.

Ate lunch at La Esmeralda Mexican Restaurant on Jensen. I can't recall the name of the dish but it was a fried massa patty with beans and al pastor pork. It was quite good.

Also ate lunch at Corina's Taqueria on Kings Canyon. Had the berria soup. Berria is always interesting as you'll never know what you'll get. It was quite tasty and also a lesson in bovine anatomy.

Rasputin's used CD store is awesome.

The raisin cartel is a really interesting business

http://www.economist.com/blogs/econ...t-explains-why-america-regulate-trade-raisins

You sell the raisins that you are supposed to trash on an annual basis...and you just might get your legs broke!

It's actually a little more complicated. In 1949 raisin prices crashed since the government was no longer buying all the raisins produced to use for the US armed forces and aid to foreign countries affected by the war. The initial idea was that it would temporarily keep prices up so as to keep raisin farms in business. However, by the mid 1950's raisin production was very efficient and the US was producing more raisins than it needed but the rest of the world couldn't afford to buy our raisins so the program continued.

By the 1980's the farm lobby had included the raisin reserve in its lobbying efforts and so the reserve continued.

Its become an issue now since their is a larger worldwide market and the raisin reserve is no longer needed, but the farm lobby won't let it die.

http://www.mit.edu/~jfc/right.html ;) california legally allows people driving normal speeds to stay in the left lane. Some states actually allow slower traffic in the left lane D:.
