Whats a Good DVD Player? Hopefully something not over $100
I had two DVD players go bad on me within a year including a Philips DVP642 DVD that plays everything.

I kind of want ATOT members experiences. I arrived at buying my DVP 642 using videohelp.com and the thing was awesome until just started to failed and its not even a year old.

I've been suggesting to people the Samsung DVD-HD860 to people looking for an inexpensive DVD player. It's all ready for an HDTV set too, in case you ever get one/have one.

had mine for 5 years now and its still going. no idea why yours would go tits up. i havent found another dvdplayer that compares to this one.

I have 3 642s that have been stellar.

Got one in my FS thread (see sig), works pretty well. It's served me well for about a year but I'm upgrading to a media center. It's a Pioneer DV-588A DVD/DVD-A/SACD player.

For about $5 more than the DVP642, Walmart sells the Phillips DVP5140/37 for $55 and it has an upgraded video DAC over the 642, so the picture quality is (IMO) noticeably better. Still plays all the formats, including DivX Ultra.

Oh it was great when it worked, now it has trouble reading the DVD's and also has trouble relasing the DVD's. You hit the open button and it comes out with the disk spinning really fast.

I guess I just got unlucky.

Well I had this one for about a year but after it didn't survive my last movie 🙁 I liked it a lot though since it played pretty much any format you could throw at it (Divx, Xvid, WMV etc..) and was an up converting DVD player with HDMI.

I now have this one and while it up converts also and supports Divx, it doesn't seem as nice of an all around DVD player and won't play any other video formats like WMV or Xvid either.
