Hi,

Just looking for good software to play and burn DVD's and compile some mp3's.
I was looking around in the stores and didn't want to shell out $120. (Roxio). I will spend $$$$ for good shareware.

Any recommendations for easy, no frills DVD copy, play and recording and good quality MP3 creation ? Decent backup software a plus.

Thanks

Windows Vista Systems (home and business).

To rip CD's to MP3 or FLAC try EAC (exact audio copy) - free

To rip Dvd's I use ImgBurn + AnyDVD, this will produce an ISO image of the DVD
ISO's can be directly played back using VLC, VLC is also a good option to play DVD's from you drive and other encoded video files such as mpg, avi, and mkv's.
Also these ISO's can be encoded into a smaller file using fairuse wizard or handbrake

some other options for DVD copy:
DVDshrink
DVDFab - this will allow you to copy the dvd and/or encode the movie to a different format

For free CD burning check out:
CDBurner XP
Imgburn - again

If you want to pay for something, I really like the Ashampoo products

For backup software check out Acronis True Image, I've read a few threads stating ver 10 is free right now but can't confirm. The latest version is not free.
A free alternative that I haven't used but have heard good things on is clonezilla

For burning CDBurnerXP is great. I generally use Ashampoo Burning Studio 8 and it's an excellent piece of software. I totally switched from using Nero after using Burning Studio.
