My brother burnes Ritek 8X DVDs at 12X with that burner but they say Taiyo Yuden DVDs are the best. The different between - or + is just format. I believe the - works better with the majority of stand alone DVD machines. I bought Ritek -8 X DVDs and I have the same burner. I haven't burned any DVDs yet, awaiting software to arrive before I can burn.
I would definitely look for Taiyo Yuden discs if you don't want to worry about coasters and such. Fuji uses them, but only if the package says "Made in Japan". Their Taiwan discs are I think Ritek, which I know to be lower quality.
Check out http://www.videohelp.com and look around there. I know there is a FAQ about the DVD-R and DVD+R formats. IIRC, they actually have similar overall compatibility in regular DVD players... about 90% of models. Of course you can look up the specific model DVD player that you own at that site and see others' reports about its compatibility with various disc formats.
i havnt burned dvds enough to know good from bad brands although my tdk's from costco have been workin out great (no coasters yet). i prefer +, like dionx said, its more universally accepted
I generally tend to only use Ritek G04 or Taiyo Yuden media. Both have worked flawlessly with my Liteon DVD burner, and from what I hear they are both very high quality media.
