Good DVD burners

I'v been looking around and I found a HP 300i DVD+RW burner. Is that a good one? Which one would you recommend. And does DVD X-copy copy the whole DVD? The selection screen, bonus features, everything or just the movie? Thanks

I've got the Sony DW-U10A DVD+-RW drive and it works great. I got the dual format burner because I really don't know which one of the two formats will survive.

As for DVD X Copy I heard that its not a very good piece of software. So I got Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD, but it does not copy copyrighted DVD movies (which most of them are) but I figured away around it by using a freeware called DVD Shrink to rip and compress the DVD movie then use Pinnacle Instant Copy to re-encode the VOB files and Burn it to a DVD-R. With DVD Shrink you can compress the entire DVD movie and keep all the special features or you can remove unwanted material to lessen the compression to get better quality.

You really dont need the Instant Copy software if you are using DVD shrink.

DVD X Copy will make an exact copy of any DVD. Most DVD's are double density so it might require two blanks for one motion picture DVD. Just dont buy DVD X Copy express, it only copies the movie and not the menu or special features. If you really want to check it out, google it and you will get a million reviews. It also might be worth noting that the RIAA is suing the makers of DVD X Copy which means it probably does something they dont like (which is usually something that we do).

Actually I use DVDXCopy Xpress and It's awesome. It doesn't copy the menus and special features, but I dont wanna waste 2 DVD's just for a single movie. I've been very happy with the results of Xpress. Also you can pick the audio track you want it to rip. Good stuff.

Also its not the RIAA that is suing DVDXcopy manufacture, its the MPAA. 🙂

I'm thinking about the Piooner DVR-A06 myself... Pioneer optical drives are nice, I've always liked the ones I've had.

Back to the burners... I've been using HP-DVD200e for some times. This external drive is working great. But now I'm looking for an internal for my yet-to-be-built computer. Recently I ran into a site (cdr.com or something like that) where I read that Philips have recently submitted the spec. for an 8x burner. That means, I'll use my HP ext burner for now and wait several weeks for the price of the 4x burners to fall or buy a new 8x burner.

Meanwhile I'll be doing my research for a DVD burner.

Got an email earlier today from 3-2-1. There's a new version of X Copy Express which has the option to copy the ENTIRE DVD. I haven't tried it yet, but users are reporting lock-up problems in the 3-2-1 forums.

I just got an NEC 1300a for a friend of mine which has DVDRw+/- and it's pretty fast.
There's good and bad responses on it so far but it should be better after a new firmware is released.
