Good DVD Burner?

I'm looking to finally get a good 16x double layer dvd burner for my computer. Does it really matter what brand you buy or are they all pretty much the same? Thanks

There are many good DVD burners out there but I believe that the majority of the members of this forum hold the NEC ND3520A in very high esteem. It will be in my next (first) system build.

While you'll get more or less the same features/performance with most brands, the NEC 3520A is by far the best of the current offerings available at or below $75 (most likely $56 over at Newegg). If you want nothing but the best, then get a Plextor PX716A for around $130.

NEC, Lite-on, and Plextor are all reputable brands for DVD burning. I'm a Lite-on fan myself (have used their drives exclusively for the last few years) and love my 8x DVD burner.

Burner is half of the equation. You also need good media. Taiyo Yuden is one of the best media manufacturers. Rima.com has them.

There you go.

I notice that NEC model has a 2mb buffer wheres some plextors have 8mb. Is this anything to be concerned about or is it not a big deal. Thanks

Buffer size helps but it means little with buffer underrun technologies in every 2-bit burner. More important is a drive that works well with a lot of different media.

I'd also recomend the NEC 3520a. I have the NEC 2510a(8x burner) and it's worked great, I've never had a single issue with it.

Got a review link on that?

Why look for a review link? Just do a search on these forums for testimonials.

But if nothing but a review will do, then google will come up with plenty.

You said... "the NEC 3520A is by far the best of the current offerings available at or below $75"
Forum testimonials are like opinions... opinions are like... everybody has one. 😛
Side by side reviews are far less biased than pure opinion.

For $70 I could buy a nice Corning Hotplate/Stirrer for my lab... and I'd have to say thats the best burner under $75

Like I said:

Go here

You'll come up with a bunch of stuff, trust me, try it!

A. "the NEC 3520A is by far the best of the current offerings available at or below $75... in my opinion"
or
B. "the NEC 3520A is by far the best of the current offerings available at or below $75... and here is XYZ review that demonstrates that fact"

Your lab?

Haha, my lab is very very clean. I can make 1-phenyl-2-methylaminopropane but have much more fun with things like 9,10-Didehydro-N,N-diethyl-6-methylergoline-8ß-carboxamide

BTW, most people that make meth use a very inefficient method (reduction of extracted pseudoephedrine from Sudafed). With bitter almond oil (benzaldehyde) and a certain type of yeast in a bio-bomb I can manufacture ephedrine on a massive scale.

All a matter of perspective, Headmaster Blain!

I beg to differ. Everyone here gives out their 'opinion' - this is a forum, after all. I agree I could have put it better - but then school's out!

and here is XYZ review that demonstrates that fact"

Don't tell me I made you make that placard...do you have a whole bunch of such pictures for for errant little punks like me?
